Prodigal Akitas is located just outside of Toronto, Ontario Canada, in a small, quiet country paradise which lets me spend quality time with my Akitas. Akitas are the breed of choice for me, but Akitas are NOT the breed for everyone. Large, powerful & dominant towards other animals, including other dogs AND especially other Akitas, they can be a trying breed for those who are new to dogs and/or who are unfamiliar with Akita behavior characteristics.

IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO ACCEPT that when it comes to being around other animals the Akita is NOT the same as your neighbor's Yorkie or the brother-in-law's Sammie or the relative plethora of Golden Retrievers down the street, it's time for you take a deep breath, back up and then continue your search for a dog somewhere else.

This website isn't about selling puppies. It's about showcasing my dogs, my goals for them and how I go about realizing those goals. Prodigal Akitas is a small kennel dedicated to maintaining the quality of the breed in Canada and for the past few years this has been proven by the presence of my dogs in the top breed rankings for Canada. This year, like every other, brings its own set of challenges with new dogs and new adventures.
